Did you know that UV lamps are used in the process of manufacturing hemp wood furniture, flooring, and cabinets just like other types of hardwood? The growth period of traditional hardwoods is 20 years compared to the 90-day growth cycle of hemp. Hemp is also approximately 25% harder than other hardwoods like oak, hickory, or maple. “Hemp is substantially more environmentally-sustainable when compared to traditional hardwood species more commonly used in building materials” according to Eastland Group of Companies president Karim Bhinah. Bhinah also notes that hemp wood does not take primer or paint like other hardwoods to which gives them a more rustic look. When finished with a UV protective coating, the finished product can be scuff and chemical resistant and have increased durability.
